Minutes of the Annual Meeting of the AMCA European Chapter
Held at the Third National Meet, Park Hotel, Dessau, Germany
Present: Steve Slocombe (President), Gunter Russek (Vice President), Peter Reeves (Deputy Judge), Kurt Riffe (Treasurer) and 25 Chapter members.
1. President’s Report. Steve called the meeting to order at 1805 hrs. The Chapter membership is holding at about 200 AMCA members in 15 countries. Ten nationalities were represented at the meet. About fifty bikes were on the field with nearly twenty put in for judging. Peter Reeves had brought judging trophies for those who had not received them last year. AMCA National Directors Kevin Valentine and Raymond Dhue were welcomed, with their wives Sue and Kathy.
Author Aldo Carrer was here from Italy, with copies of two of his photographic motorcycle histories which members were invited to see. A display copy of Johnny Sells’ book on restoring the 1929-36 Harley-Davidson small twin was also available for inspection.
Vendors were urged to provide door prizes for the raffle the next day.
2. Election of Officers
The existing officers were willing to stand for another year, and there were no other nominations. The officers named above were therefore re-elected for a further term.
3. Location of 2008 Meet
The Park Hotel had been sold and is still available for the announced 11/12 May 2007 meet. However, new locations should be considered for 2008, which should be low cost, provide good facilities for visiting Americans, and be close to the centre of gravity of Chapter membership. Jean-Paul Piron suggested a location in the Belgian Ardennes which would be investigated. Martin Brill suggested the Speyer Technical Museum in Germany, and Paul Jung suggested a location near Heidelburg. Fritz Simmerlein subsequently suggested Dinkelsbuehl in southern Germany. These would be investigated in the coming months and a recommendation made.
4. Other Business
There was no other business and the meeting closed at 1825 hrs.
